The survivors build an intense-light tower to try to signal the Resolute. Maureen, noticing the rapid rate of change in the length of days and increased temperatures, leaves to conduct an experiment. Using a weather balloon, she observes the sun from high in the atmosphere, discovering their star is actually a deadly star/black hole binary system. The planet will soon pass between them, eradicating all life on its surface. Will ignores Penny and Judy's advice to tell their father about the Robot. Penny develops a crush on Vijay, flirting with him as they move supplies. Smith asks Will for a favor. Don confronts Smith about the stolen flare gun, though she claims she took it by mistake. In a flashback, Maureen and the kids discuss pros versus cons of going to Alpha Centauri. Judy and Don discuss his smuggling activities. He also reveals his suspicions about Smith's identity. Judy confronts Smith about this, but Smith lies and instead casts doubt on Don. The survivors activate the light signal, but Smith sneaks away and shuts off the perimeter fence. Smith tells John about the kids hiding the robot. Meanwhile, a large reptilian creature enters the camp and and destroys the light tower while going after for food the many moth-like creatures the light has attracted. Another creature shows up, hunting the survivors. Smith tells Will to call the robot. It saves the survivors, but only defends itself against the creatures after Will tells it to. It resumes its original multi-limb form to do this. The survivors now know it exists and that it attacked the Resolute.
We're about 100,000 watts short of our candela target.
-The beef ravioli ones aren't that bad. -Yeah. Until you've had, like, 20.
with this much gusto before.
We should be finished with the tower frame by midday.
What are you doing with all of that booze in our Jupiter?
Like a moth to a flame?
Obviously never had single malt Scotch, have you?
Sure. Maybe that's where my flare gun is. Next to the water.
Yeah. Yeah. And, uh, some shrink named Dr. Smith.
[nurse] He's down three ounce.
Do you want herb chicken or peanut butter?
or... or maybe it's the celestial mechanic of the system,
To tell you that Will refuses to unload his insulation.
Just needs to coincide with the orbit of the Resolute.
We have yet to detect any survivor, but we'll redouble...
Do you want herb chicken or peanut butter?
My St. Christopher medal. It protected you.
And to get through the five stages of anger,
Hard to tell. She doesn’t come out of her cabin.
We're about 100,000 watt short of our candela target.
Like a moth to a flame?
The necklace?
Do you want herb chicken or peanut butter?
[Victor] If the cables overheat,
Pro: governments have stabilize, for the most part.
but I knew what you'd say, that you'd be annoy.
I forgive you.
As oppose to negatively phototactic.
I know that bother you.
You know, the flare gun you stole when you left me for dead?
It means they're attract to light.
To tell you that Will refuse to unload his insulation.
survive such a big storm.
[automated voice] Warning. Hawking radiation detect.
I suppose.
Okay. Problem solve.
Why are you lying to me?
No, we rescue her.
When we crash, Don's friend died on impact.
[Judy] I've never seen you throw yourself into a task
I bet she did.
[sobbing] If you fight now, I promise you that I will fight for you
Who taught you self-defense there, Doc?
I assume that they told you. I thought at least Will would have.
Last thing we need is that thing being draw in
Make up for the time you lost. That's why you're here, isn't it?
As opposed to negatively phototactic.
They're positively phototactic.
-You going somewhere? -Trying to.
Obviously never had single malt Scotch, have you?
Yeah, and apparently one that requires lots of heavy lifting.
How... How exactly will we know that it works?
It's the sun. It's rising earlier and earlier every day.
No, she said she was alone.
-Sensitive issue. [sniffs] -Not particularly.
It will be nice to finally hear a different message,
-I'm sorry, from... from who? -Don. He said he almost died.
It's actually a really interesting concept.
One thing's for sure, it... it kind of hogged all your time.
So you should tell Dad, as soon as possible.
I gotta go. So we'll talk later, okay?
-I'm sort of like a importer-exporter. -Smuggler.
I know it's been rough so far.
-It's going up fast, huh? -[sighs] It sure is.
The upside is that we get to spend all that time together. Right?
Cons: If we stay here, we won't ever see another blue sky,
-It's going up fast, huh? -[sighs] It sure is.
At least he figured out a way for us to signal the Resolute.
but green always goes to the ground.
-Is it sentient? -It's a robot.
or maybe I'm wrong about the gravitational constant.
You made it. I'm so relieved.
or... or maybe it's the celestial mechanics of the system,
But bravery without intelligence, that's a very risky thing.
Really? Why am I not shocked?
Thanks, but I'd take brave over smart any day.
The Resolute may be deaf, but it isn't blind.
Stay calm.
[chuckles] I'm curious as to how such a big baby
Louder and loud until you think your head might explode.
-[indistinct chatter] -[man] Oh, my God, this is incredible.
I know it's been rough so far.
You be careful.
Hey. You're a tough guy to track down.
It's okay. You were saving the world.
from furious to mad to PO'ed--
The Resolute may be deaf, but it isn't blind.
[Will] Is it dangerous?
Sensitive issue.
So, uh, Victor thinks if he builds a light tower bright enough--
You're a pretty smart kid, you know that?
Yeah, and apparently one that requires lots of heavy lifting.
